LEONA LEWIS is about to be crowned as an all-conquering pop icon. The singer from an East London housing scheme won the hearts of the nation when she triumphed in the X Factor — and smashed UK chart records for fun with her debut single and album. She then wowed the States and became the first UK female to have a No1 single over the Pond since shoulder pads were compulsory in suits. X FACTOR sensation LEONA LEWIS is on the brink of being chosen to sing the new James Bond theme tune.
The Hackney-born star, 23, is set to beat troubled AMY WINEHOUSE and a host of other big names to one of the most prestigious deals in pop.
Film chiefs are talking to Leona’s camp and now think she is the ideal choice to sing the title track for the 22nd Bond blockbuster Quantum Of Solace.
A source revealed yesterday: “It looks like Leona has finally won the race. She is seen as one of the few candidates who has the right profile both sides of the pond to do it.
“Amy was their original choice but she just can’t get her act together and hasn’t got the right image.
“The Bond guys now look set on Leona. She is reliable and has a great voice for it.
“Hopefully something could be announced soon.”
Amy, 24, has been in the driving seat since last year.
But her relationship with superproducer MARK RONSON broke down as they tried to record the track.
Leona has smashed a host of chart records since winning the X Factor in 2006.
Her track Bleeding Love made her the first British female to have a No1 single in America since Kim Wilde 21 years ago.
Quantum Of Solace, starring DANIEL CRAIG as Bond, is due out in October.

It’s looking like Amy Winehouse might have some serious competition on her hands if she hopes to secure the much hyped Bond track. Almost everyday a new twist in the tale emerges and the latest whispers come in the shape sexy songstress Leona Lewis….According to reports Simon Cowell has been in talks with the film’s producers as he thinks Leona would be perfect for the job and after Amy’s recent performances we hate to say we’re inclined to agree with him. oHHH Amy put everything in order, you have a great voice dont kill it!

JUST when you think the LEONA LEWIS success express is slowing, she goes and gets herself another gold star beside her name.
After conquering the US, the X Factor winner is now making her mark on video site YouTube with millions of hits.
The promo for her hit single Bleeding Love has entered the site’s top ten most viewed videos of all time.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she is also the only British artist to make it anywhere near the top ten.
At the last count, more than 55million people had watched the video for Leona’s No1 single.
She is currently in sixth place but is snapping at the heels of TIMBALAND featuring ONE REPUBLIC’s Apologise video, which has been eyeballed by 56million.
Also ahead of our Leona is Canadian warbler AVRIL LAVIGNE with Girlfriend, which has been viewed more than 85million times, and RIHANNA’s Don’t Stop The Music, which is the fourth most-watched YouTube clip of all time.
The video that has been viewed the most is Evolution Of Dance, which has clocked up more than 86million hits.
Leona is currently averaging around 150,000 views a day.
But hardcore fans are furious that she appears to have suddenly disappeared from YouTube’s official list.
I’m not one for conspiracy theories but I’ve reported the fault to YouTube bosses and I reckon that she’ll be back to her rightful place in no time.
