Globes glitter once more

THE glamour and glitz returned to the Golden Globes tonight – a year after the event was cancelled due to the Writers’ Strike. Twice nominated Brit KATE WINSLET arrived with Revolutionary Road co-star LEONARDO DiCAPRIO and looked stunning in a black Yves Saint Laurent dress. BRAD PITT and ANGELINA JOLIE, both nominated for awards, waved and smiled as they made their way up the red carpet at Holywood's Beverly Hilton. EVA LONGORIA led the glamour offensive in a floor-sweeping red gown and BEYONCE thumbed her nose at the credit crunch with a huge diamond necklace to accessorize her strapless silver gown. The heat in Los Angeles meant the style of the evening was strapless dresses and neat pulled back hairstyles.

DREW BARRYMORE bucked the trend with seventies style big hair and MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL went for blue leopard print with just one shoulder showing.
A strong British contingent included DOMINIC COOPER, RICKY GERVAIS and Slumdog Millionaire star DEV PATEL. AndBest Comedy Actress nominee EMMA THOMPSON showed her patriotism by arriving with Union Jack flags painted on her toe nails.
"I'm British from head to toe," she joked. "Although the shoes by Robert Clergerie are French."
JENNIFER LOPEZ displayed a show of unity with husband MARC ANTHONY amid rumours their marriage is in trouble. J-Lo looked stunning in her gold dress but was not wearing her wedding ring. CLINT EASTWOOD, SIGOURNEY WEAVER and DEBRA MESSING were among the other stars on the carpet.
